Matthias Walker is a visual artist photographer born and active in Switzerland. He began his journey in analog photography during his adolescence and later pursued training in graphic arts, completing internships in photography. After high school, he pursued studies at an art high school where he developed photographs in the darkroom. During this time, he mainly focused on portraits and landscapes in both analog and digital photography. He studied visual communication at the School of Graphic Arts and Communication in Romandy (ERACOM). Since 2019, he has been focusing primarily on abstract photography. He particularly captures reflections on water in natural light, both day and night.
From this prolific series of reflections, he exhibited for the first time at the cultural café la Datcha in Lausanne. He will have two more reflection exhibitions in 2023 and 2024 in Lausanne. He covers events for the cantonal library in Lausanne, as well as for festivals, including the Lausanne Underground Film Festival (screenings, concerts, atmosphere, and artist portraits). He is also interested in alternative photographic techniques and offers a cyanotype workshop at the festival En devenir.
Since 2021, he has begun a series of refractographs that is currently ongoing, with the next exhibition scheduled at the Cinema Galleries in Lausanne in November 2024. In his work on refractographs, he enjoys revealing a reality that is not usually visible. Shapes emerge in an environment where time and space lack reference points, reminding us that our perception is limited compared to the vastness of reality. The works are untitled to allow for free interpretation and imagination.
